As we draw to the end of a fantastic year for the West End (and an incomparable twelve months for London), it’s inevitable that we should look back, reflect and take stock.

That’s exactly what the Evening Standard is doing and, as the recently circulated longlists of its Theatre Awards demonstrate, there’s been a huge variety of theatre and live entertainment to be thankful for. From Love and Information and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time through to Sweeney Todd and Swallows and Amazons, the wealth and range of nominees point to 2012 being a vintage year.

But it’s not just the critics who get a say; one of the most coveted trophies, the award for Best Night Out, is voted for by the public.

We’re thrilled that the hugely deserving productions of A Chorus of Disapproval, Let it Be and Matilda the Musical have all been nominated and quite rightly too! So get voting, the winner will be announced on November 26th!
