At aka, the office is never short of excitement. From our charity fundraising to our award-winning campaigns, there’s always something happening. However, the most highly anticipated and brutally competitive aspect of working at aka is the annual Rate My Cake competition.

Staged throughout the second half of the year, this contest pits baker against baker in a quest for the most admired cake. All Rate My Cake participants sample a handful of contestants’ produce every Friday and award each cake a mark out of five. The highest scoring bakers are then entered into a nail-biting final where they are required to create a pièce-de-resistance that will win the coveted Rate My Cake trophy (an engraved wooden spoon).

In honour of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics being held in London the 2012 theme was ‘Quintessentially British’. After extensive and very eager sampling, the talented finalists were Katie Cain, Eleanor Heaton-Armstrong, Laura Henderson and Anna Whitwood.

The finalists were enthusiastic, the cakes were divine and the diets were put on hold. After counting the votes, we can now reveal that the winner of Rate My Cake 2012 is Anna Whitwood, for her beautiful Secret Garden Cupcakes.

Many congratulations to Anna! To see the winning cake and more photos from this year’s final, take a look at the below image gallery.
