On Saturday, we welcomed the latest intake of Student Ambassadors to the Royal Opera House. Having completed a rigorous application process, where they were tasked with engaging students with ballet and opera during their Freshers’ Weeks in an interesting and innovative way, 21 students were selected from across the country to join us for the Season. On their first visit, we treated them to an orchestral rehearsal lead by Antonio Pappano featuring Joyce DiDonato, before AKA and the Royal Opera House ran a joint, in-depth social media training session.
This AKA initiative, now in its sixth year, aims to introduce young people to the Royal Opera House, its Student Scheme – with discounted tickets, reserved seats and exclusive early booking days – and opera and ballet in general, through the use of their peers as cultural influencers.
The Student Ambassadors use social media, hand to hand distribution, film screenings and experiential events to engage their fellow students, and have contributed to the Student Scheme reaching over 18,000 members.
