Matilda The Musical has partnered with Covent Garden for the festive period, performing for their annual Christmas lights switch-on event this week and installing Miss Trunchbull’s giant chair in Central Avenue, in the heart of the market.
Matilda performed ‘Naughty’ and with Miss Honey sang alongside Royal Wedding favourites, the Kingdom Choir. After the performance Paloma Faith joined the stage, where they all pressed the button to illuminate Covent Garden’s famous Christmas tree. The event generated some great PR for the show.
The giant Trunchbull chair, designed by the show’s set designer Rob Howell will be in place until early January, where shoppers can put their feet up and take a photo to get the chance to win tickets to see the show. The installation is sign-posted by a shop-front vinyl takeover (part of the Royal Opera House arcade) and supported by a social and PR campaign in collaboration with the owners of Covent Garden.
