Donmar Breaks Free with Five Star Reviews

Phyllida Lloyd’s all-female Donmar Shakespeare Trilogy made up of Julius Caesar, Henry IV and The Tempest set in a women’s prison officially opened last week. The reaction has been extraordinary with critics and audiences alike responding to the production’s ambition, gender-blind casting, social message (including some award-winning outreach work with charity Clean Break and prisons), YOUNG+FREE accessibility scheme and the outstanding performances led by Harriet Walter’s fiercely committed portrayals of Brutus, Henry IV and Prospero. Perhaps the most compelling review came from long-time project fan Lyn Gardner, take a read here. The Trilogy runs at King’s Cross Theatre until 17 December.
