At aka, we are always looking for new ways to make a difference. Over the last year, we have been supporting two charities that we are passionate about. From sponsored Marathons through to bake sales, we have managed to raise £8,728.26 that will be split between both Nanyuki Preparatory School in Kenya and the Paralympic athletes we are sponsoring ahead of London 2012.

This year, we’ll be doing something a little different, namely setting ourselves the challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro in February 2012.  We would like to ask you as our friends and colleagues to help, either by sponsoring us or by taking part. Our trip will start on 19 February 2012, and the climb will take five days to complete.

The deadline to sign up with a £500 deposit is fast approaching! For more information on the climb and the causes please check out our Make a Difference website. If you wish to sign up and join us on this adventure please email makeadifference@www.akauk.com. Thank you!

More about our charities:

Following a trip to Kenya by Account Manager Krista Tuchscherer in 2010, we have supported the Nanyuki Preparatory School that she visited and worked at.  Over the last year, the money we have raised meant that the school could have their water supply re-connected and establish a feeding programme, which meant that all 65 children were provided with two meals a day 6 days a week.

Whilst supporting those in need abroad is important, we also want to make sure that we’re making a difference closer to home, which is why we’re splitting our Christmas charity donation between two worthy causes.

In the lead up to the 2012 Olympics we have pledged our support to three athletes in their preparation for the Paralympic Games. Without sponsorship, these inspiring athletes’ ability to train, focus, qualify and triumph would be severely affected.

The first athlete confirmed to be sponsored by aka, on behalf of our friends, clients and suppliers, is Nikki Emerson, an elite wheelchair racer.
