aka begins charity trek up Kilimanjaro

Never a company to do things by halves, aka are attempting something different to make a difference.

Four intrepid members of aka staff are trekking up Mount Kilimanjaro with the key aim of raising funds for our two good causes this year, the Nanyuki Preparatory School in Kenya and a selection of elite Paralympic athletes. Ahead of London 2012, we will be supporting Kelley Becherer through Team USA Paralympic Team, Rebecca Julian through the Australia Paralympic Committee and elite wheelchair racer Nicki Emerson, who will be representing Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

For the expedition, Founder and Managing Director Adam Kenwright has been joined by aka New York Senior Marketing Manager Erik Alden, aka London Client Services Account Manager Krista Tuchscherer and Promotions Director Claire McLaughlin, who is also based in London.

Our climbers have set themselves the challenging Rongai route, which they will complete in five days. This route ascends Kilimanjaro from the north-eastern side of the mountain, along the border of Tanzania and Kenya. It is one of the less touristy routes and retains a sense of unspoilt wilderness, so should definitely make for a once in a lifetime experience!

Once the climb has been completed, all four of the group will then pay a visit to Nanyuki Preparatory School to meet the staff, get to know some of the students and see how the money that we’ve raised is being spent.

We’ll be following the brave climbers and updating you on their progress as frequently as we can. As you can imagine, half way up Kilimanjaro doesn’t have the best internet signal!
