DIRTY DANCING TEAM RACES FOR LIFE
16 May, 2008
A 10-strong team from hit show, Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story On Stage, is taking part in this year's Cancer Research UK's Race For Life.
The team, which comprises eight of the wardrobe team and two dancers, will run 5K for the cause on Sunday 13 July, kicking off at 10:30am from Blackheath.
Wardrobe mistress and team leader, Janie Stephenson, said: "the dancers are super-fit, and some of us go to the gym, but otherwise the most exercise the wardrobe team generally gets is dashing up and down stairs backstage with costumes during the show; it's going to be a challenge!"
Janie decided to rally the Dirty Dancing troops for the event after successfully completing the race last year, despite nursing a broken toe. In true wardrobe mistress style, she's already kitted the team out in Dirty Dancing caps, T-shirts and hot pants.
"The atmosphere at the event is always brilliant and raises so much money for Cancer Research. Like most people, each of us has been affected by cancer in some way - we decided we couldn't do enough to support this and would absolutely encourage others to do the same," she said.
With the event less than a month away, the girls are stepping up their individual training, and, of course, planning how they'll celebrate afterwards. "We'll probably go for a pint and a Sunday roast - we will definitely have earned it!" said Janie.
