6 May, 2008
The phenomenally successful production Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story On Stage is taking inspiration from one of its own classic lines and supporting the UK's first ever National Watermelon Day on Monday August 4 2008.
It's the moment that over 750,000 audience members have keenly anticipated since the show opened; Frances 'Baby' Houseman awkwardly exclaiming "I carried a WATERMELON?!" when she first encounters sexy dance teacher Johnny Castle. This first meeting at a steamy staff only dance party is just the beginning as it leads Baby behind the scenes at Kellerman's holiday resort into a passionate love affair and a challenge that will change her life forever.
The first 20 people to carry a watermelon to the Aldwych Theatre at 10am on National Watermelon Day (Monday August 4 2008) will win a free pair of top price tickets to see the show that night. The race is on!
"I carried a WATERMELON?!" is indisputably one of the best loved lines from the show. This fun challenge gives fans the opportunity to relive that moment and see the production, which is still selling out 18 months after it first opened in London.
