DIRTY DANCING - THE CLASSIC STORY ON STAGE RAISES OVER £30,000 FOR REFUGE WITH VALENTINE'S GALA
February 15, 2008
Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story On Stage held a Valentine's Day Charity Gala in aid of Refuge last night, hosted by the charity's supporters Sheryl and Bianca Gascoigne and attended by over 1,100 excited fans at the sold-out performance.
Dirty Dancing combined forces with Refuge, a national charity that provides emergency accommodation and support for women and children escaping domestic violence, to organise the special event which took place at Dirty Dancing's West End home, the Aldwych Theatre. The gala included a prize draw and speeches by Sheryl and Bianca, and raised over £30,000 for Refuge.
Sheryl said "Domestic violence is a serious crime that affects one in four women in this country. As a survivor I know how hard it is to break through the isolation and shame a woman feels to get the help and support she needs. Refuge is an incredible charity that helps hundreds of women every day - so I am thrilled to be able to host this brilliant fundraising event for them."
Bianca added "Refuge is a charity that needs and deserves your support. This gala gives everyone a perfect opportunity to enjoy a fantastic evening and in so doing help Refuge reach out to and rebuild the lives of so many women and children experiencing domestic violence."
