THE CAST OF THE RECORD BREAKING WEST END SHOW DIRTY DANCING - THE CLASSIC STORY ON STAGE RAISE OVER £30,000 FOR THEATRECARES WITH MIDNIGHT MATINEE
August 23, 2007
Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story On Stage has smashed all West End box office records to date. Audiences are still flocking to the Aldwych Theatre for "the time of their lives" as the iconic coming-of-age story is brought to life on stage. On Monday night, August 13, the cast performed a very special Midnight Matinee Performance in aid of Theatrecares, a leading charity which provides help and support to people diagnosed with HIV/AIDS.
The cast, crew and theatre staff agreed to provide this extra performance for free, giving their spare time to help this important charity, with all ticket revenue donated to Theatrecares. The one-off performance gave West End professionals a unique opportunity to see the show, and the sell-out Midnight Matinee raised an incredible £31,155 for Theatrecares.
Written by Eleanor Bergstein, script writer and co-producer of the phenomenally successful film, Dirty Dancing is the coming of age love story between the talented and headstrong dancer Johnny Castle (Josef Brown) and Frances 'Baby' Houseman (Georgina Rich) during her family's summer holiday.
The show features all the much-loved characters from the iconic film, tantalising dance sequences and the hits from the unforgettable soundtrack that made the film an all time classic such as 'Do You Love Me?', 'Hungry Eyes' and Academy Award Winning 'Time Of My Life'
Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage is produced by Jacobsen Entertainment and Karl Sydow, in association with Lionsgate and Magic Hour Productions. Directed by James Powell, music supervisor Conrad Helfrich, choreographer Kate Champion, set design Stephen Brimson Lewis, lighting design Tim Mitchell, sound design Bobby Aitken, video and projection design Jon Driscoll, Ballroom and Latin choreographer Craig Wilson and costume design Jennifer Irwin.
