Gabriel Castillo
Associate Choreographer
Gabriel's career as a dancer started in New York City at the age of 18. He worked with choreographers such as Margo Sappington and July Barnsley. He was a soloist dancer with the contemporary dance company Danzahoy, Collective Action and a guest dancer with Ballet Nuevo Mundo de Caracas directed by Zhandra Rodriguez. In 1993 he was awarded best contemporary dancer by the International Theatre Institute and invited to participate at their 25th International Theatre congress held in Munich.
He then moved to Europe where he worked with companies like Cie. Michèle Anne de Mey, Cie, Jus de la Vie and Ultima Vez-Wim Vandekeybus. In 1995 he joined the prestigious company DV8 Physical Theatre directed by Lloyd Newson. During his 11 years there, Gabriel toured world wide with the award winning stage production Enter Achilles and appeared in the acclaimed film Enter Achilles. He also performed in the production The Happiest Day of my Life and later became the assistant to the director Mr. Newson for the productions The Cost Of Living - originally commissioned by the Sydney Olympics in 2000 – and Just for Show which toured internationally. He was also the company manager for several productions.
Gabriel has also choreographed for TV; directed The Law of Nothing commissioned by the National City Ballet of Sao Paolo, Brazil and has recently choreographed for Madonna's Confessions world Tour.
